Double Pods
Unique turf roofed fully insulated double pods which offer comfort, privacy, weather protection, and great views.
Our pods have double mattresses with bedding and electricity.
Stay a night or longer but experience the excitement of wild camping but have the security of the excellent facilities of our site.
Free parking is available in our car park.
Family/Group Pod
A large group/family pod with 4 single beds and a large porch with a firepit.
It's comfortable, functional and an ideal base for overnight stays or longer.
Family/Group Bunk Room
A large group/family bunk room with 4 single beds in 2 solidly made bunks with very sturdy steps rather than ladders.
It is located within the main facilities block and close to the living area and bathrooms.

Double Pod with Parking
Unique turf roofed fully insulated double pods which offer comfort, privacy, weather protection, and great views.
These pods are identical to our double pods but you can park next to them rather than in the car park.
Our pods have double mattresses with bedding and electricity.
Stay a night or longer but experience the excitement of wild camping but have the security of the excellent facilities of our site.
Accommodation Facilities
All our excellent facilities are shared. We have a large well equipped communal kitchen /dining area with Wi-Fi. Five bathrooms (with probably the most powerful showers in The Western Isles), a large decked area, ample parking and an EV charger. We generate much of the electricity we use on the site from solar panels and are working towards complete sustainability.

Group Bookings
The Tractor Shed is perfect for whole site bookings for large groups (Minimum stay lengths apply).
We can provide up to 22 bed spaces.
We regularly have community groups, educational groups, families or groups of friends staying with us.

Dogs
Well behaved dogs are welcome at The Tractor Shed.
For the safety and comfort of our other guests they must be kept on leads at all times and are not allowed in communal areas.

The easiest way to find us is to use Google Maps.
Don't use our postcode - it takes you to croft land about a mile away.
EE/BT networks allow you plenty of data - other networks are patchy.
From the south (Benbecula/Heb Way) Follow the A865 North. At the village of Paible you will see a petrol station and shop on your left. Take the next left and pass a big pink school on your right. About 100m past the school take the next left and we are about 100m from the junction.
From Lochmaddy. take the road to Benbecula. You will come to a junction after 8 miles. At the junction turn right onto the A865 and follow the directions above.
From Berneray (Harris Ferry) Head south to main junction on the A865. Turn right at the junction towards Sollas. Carry on for about 12 miles and you will get to Paible.
About us
At The Tractor Shed, we believe that travel should be accessible to everyone. We provide unique and affordable accommodation allowing travellers to experience the beauty of this remote and enchanting destination. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that every guest has a memorable stay filled with adventure, relaxation, and authentic experiences.
The Tractor Shed was originally built in the early 1980s as a community workshop and paid for with European funding. It cost about £50 000 making it probably the most expensive building on the island! A 10 acre croft with croft house was about £5000 at the time!
In the late '80s The Crofting Commission started to give crofters grants to build their own sheds so the community workshop became redundant. It soon became derelict and the pigeons moved in. It lay unwanted and invisible for 20 years until I bought it, along with the adjacent garden in 2015.
The pigeon muck was dug out - about a metre deep in places and the facilities building was completely remodeled, trying to leave in some original features such as the double doors and the steel beam they used to hoist engines out of vehicles. The pods are my own design and we have gradually built the site to what it is today.
Additional outside bathrooms were added in 2021 paid for with my Covid grant!
North Uist is a working island and we live here all year round. The weather can be extreme and therefore everything we build is built to last and cope with the winter!!!
